Cabassous centralis 1985 - sketch by G Paz-y-Mino-C

Above, Cabassous centralis armadillo. The sketch is from 1985, when I just started college. It appeared in a publication (by Orces and Albuja) in which the authors reported the species as a new addition to Ecuador’s list of mammals. G. Paz-y-Miño-C — © 1985

Black-spectacled caiman - sketch G-Paz-y-Mino-C 1986

Above, Black-spectacled caiman (Melanosuchus niger). This particular illustration was for the Crocodile Specialist Group. Besides being on posters announcing the 1986 world meeting in Limoncocha (Amazonian Ecuador), it came out on cards and postcards. I still have a copy of a card (10.5 x 16.5 cm). I attempted to make the sketch look like an old-style naturalist’s illustration. I remember making the mistake of drawing too many scales in the tail, which had to be corrected to be in agreement with the real specimen. G. Paz-y-Miño-C — © 1986
